PHOOBEAR22: is this engine gonna eventually replace the Series 60 altogether??? i own
an 04 Freightliner and it has the 14.0Litre rated @515bhp/1650lb ft
torque.i heard that the 12.7 was quietly phased out of production.and this
thing is a 15-litre(actually 14.8)hopefully this motor will get a
"legitimate power-rating of 600bhp".Caterpillar has had this rating for
quite some time.Heck they also have the 625bhp.
CrackinVTEC666: @PollockTom FALSE cummins isx crapS on DD look at the 12.7 they dont last
worth a damn and now theyve made a 16L DD to compete with the ISX HP/TQ
levisnteeshirt: i had a 12.7 that busted 3 pistons and they couldn't find out why ,,, i
would avoid a 12.7 at all cost ,,,, i hear there is a bad batch of pistons
that were made ,,, they should make a replacement piston for the 12.7 thats
all cast iron like the 14.0
wade w: Egr problems majorly !! DEF problems non stop !! fuel rails have been
recalled twice now !! the rear head gasket starts leaking after 160 000 km
!! If your from canada and run winters you will have nothing but problems
with the dpf filters and system !! I'm changing these out at 250 000 km on
some trucks!! If any advice pay the money and get dpf delete on the truck !
at least here in canada its legal !! not to mention the ECM problems !!
tmstr174: 24 valves and drive by wire has been around since the Series 60 came out 20
iluvincitingviolence: @halosux4life That wasn't announced an entire year ago when the comment was
tmstr174: Yes, CAT is leaving because of the failure of ACERT technology. But, unlike
you, I am not happy about it.
William McMillan: yes it does, fact is all New compliant engines have some sort of trap or re
Rashad Thomas: Oh yea that engine leaks oil in hard to find places cause its too much
stuff attached too the engine. That belt tensioner makes your engine the
loudest engine in the parking lot. But the engine gets great mpg and as of
right now that's all that matters.
panamcunard: That sound like a powerful engine.
sooperPOOPERstar: detroit diesel...assembled in america with parts from around the
world...and the profits sent to ze fatherland...shame on the uaw.
Rashad Thomas: I put 800,000 on a DD15 had many problems. Belt tensioner sucked made belts
sound loud then belt came off and truck ran hot. 2 days in shop. Injectors
lost power in shop 3 days. Turbo went out another 3 days in shop. EGR
cooler went out 1 day in shop. I had too fix a lot of other stuff as well
mostly minor. The truck was a Century 2010 got it in 2009. Fuel mpg was
great. Even though I had problems with the engine its still better then a
60 series engine. Design a new EGR cooler and belt ten
William McMillan: What really helps this engine be the very best is the 24 valve and drive by
wire approach, make no mistake just like cars that were slow to evolve into
todays high tech very efficiant fast machines high truck costs demand truck
manufactures get smart and develop efficiant reliable and affordable profit
machines to move freight. We hope!
gwokerism: its not made to inframe only r and r ,, good buy to the old school mobile
mechanic....buy we can change external parts....i love the 60 and 50s
hopefully they are still around when i quit...i mean i still see 2 cylces
yahman03: Detroit Diesel: Putting the capital "D" back in "Diesel"...
2fast65: Cat dose not build engins fore trucks but are not gone the detroit hase ben
a good engine i drive a county plow truck in Mn and i have the option
between a detroit or a cummins and i am still un decided. I am looking
foreword to having the badest plow truck in Mn Only the best survive!!!!!
William McMillan: This person knows what the engine is all about Thank you
kennjohnsen: @Bladerunner140 What's your background to say so ?
PollockTom: Yes, Cat is on their way out. They are no longer building engines starting
in 2010. The DD15 is the best engine on the market.
William McMillan: Series 60 still paying big bigger dividends on the used truck re sale
wade w: I'm a journyman mechanic that works on the dd15 engine every day ! they are
not even compared to a cat engine or cummins !! cat is paired with volvo
now so its a cat engine but with a different name ! The dd15's are peices
of crap !!! but it keeps me employed !!!
tmstr174: It will have a DPF, as well as SCR for 2010 EPA.
Bladerunner140: Work at a Freightliner dealership and over twenty years in. I should say I
liked the 60 Series - best motor made in my opinion but the DD13 and DD15
are junk. I beleive now Cummins ISX series beats this motor soundly. A
shame for Detroit.
tmstr174: Another fallacy, pre-emmissions CATs in Pete's and Kenworths pay the
halosux4life: @PollockTom do your homework tard.... CAT IS COMING OUT WITH A TRUCK
blackandgold51: I wonder if these engines have the same loud torque as the old DD egnines.
Bladerunner140: Junk-work on these all the time. High pressure pump issues, turbo pukes and
takes out the seconsary turbine then DPF. A shame Detroit merged with
Mercedes design. Nothing amazing about this junk motor.
Bernard Roberson: Is Cat on their way out? I hope so that would be very good for Detroit and
these great engines. Yes it's a DD 13 and DD16 on their way.
tmstr174: Heard some good things about this motor in the field. This may be THE
engine to get, I've heard the torque response is unbelievable. With CAT on
the way out, Cummins may have its hands full with this new Detroit. I've
heard the upcoming DD16 will have 600+hp and 2000+ftlb torque!!!
27butters: Worked on a lot of these. They are junk.
PHOOBEAR22: in the long haul, torque always rule.i hope this thing don't have a
particulate trap.man,that'll be ugly.
stupidfuckhole: @halosux4life Designed by international, branded with cat logos. Not CAT's
06cgmGTO: Great motor only small problems with these dd motors. Work at Ryder in a us
with almost nothing but new detroits nowadays. Honestly really impressed
with there reliability considering all the emissions crap on me.
truckinjeff: R.I.P. Series 60! Now make way for bigger and better things!
