Lead Acid Battery Desulfation Using Epsom Salt -- First Test, Adding Solution Part 1 Of 6

What do you think about this video?

ElGatoLoco698: Safety nerds are going nuts asking where the gloves are.

Dan Hammack: I have seen some chargers that claim desulfation due to electrical pulses, however I've have done a lot of reading on this and have seen no evidence that sulfated batteries can actually be recovered. Sulfation can be prevented by keeping a battery on any smart charger when not in use as sulfation is a result of battery discharge.

steve w: In other research I've done on using the Epsom Salt, a teaspoon of the dilution per cell, or a tablespoon per cell, might not be enough of the chemical to clean the plates. Looking forward to the other videos.

Zetetic Elench: battery maintenance that segues into solar... (other series) the wiki on lead-acid cells is a good primer.

Begbucks: Rather; I prefer cooking the Epsom salt by bringing the distilled water to a boil to adequately dissolve the salts in the mixture.

destinyabby: you have change the battery..

imallpissedoff: No, actually, stupidity runs deep with you. It was a joke.

yoramsk1: cool vid. interested to see how this turns out.

KmanAuto: Then next time say it in a joking manor, not a taunting one.

mppforall: How much epsom salt should we add to the water? Great video, Thanks!

thenomadrhodes: Would this work on a car batter? My battery went dead and I cant afford a new one right now :( I've heard about Epson's Salt and or Aluminum Sulphate fixing a battery. Thank you for the video.

ColtPiggerton: LOL, never trust someone who uses a wrench as a hammer. 2:57

longjohn412: Walmart batteries and Interstate batteries are made in the exact same place, Johnson Controls. The only real difference is the color of the plastic case and the sticker. What really matters is how long it's been on the shelf (Giving Walmart the edge with higher turnover) and if a charge is applied every so often (Which usually gives Interstate an edge depending on the seller) I've heard a lot of people give the exact opposite assessment with Interstate good and Walmart junk ....

thenomadrhodes: Well its a small truck, it's a 86 toyota R22 pick up, 6cly. I think the cca is around 550. I believe I can't find any thing on the net about it, but that's what it had in it when I bought it some years ago. Thank you for the reply Kman :)

KmanAuto: A cheap (do some shopping around) lawnmower battery can be had for as little as $15 (I get them regularly for that price!) though those are about 150cca. For about $25-$30 you can get about 350-400cca. Enough to start any 4cylinder and some 6 cylinder cars. Or even so, if you recover your car battery, keep a CHEAPIE lawnmower battery in your trunk. in case you dont have just enough to get started, you could jump start your car from it.

imallpissedoff: Lol. "Electric car batteries." As opposed to what, the hydraulic ones?

longjohn412: I get mine from a place called Blain's Farm and Fleet which like Johnson Controls is out of Wisconsin because they have a longer warranty. Scumbags abusing Walmart's no questions asked warranty were exchanging perfectly good batteries every year so Walmart put a one year warranty on them instead of 2 years like F&F or 30 month like Interstate. Since the batteries are essentially the same at all 3 I go with the best warranty AND Service and that's certainly no Wally World, it's Farm and Fleet

KmanAuto: Yes, it can, though, not guaranteed. If it's something (like your car) that you must rely on for work, medical etc..., I highly recommend trying to scrape together enough to get even a super cheap car battery. Check to see how many Cold Cranking amps your car requires, let me know what that number is, I will be able to suggest a super cheap alternative to getting a new car battery (As in, lawn mower battery). My TRUCK (2002 Nissan Xterra, 6 cylinder 270hp)factory battery was only rated at 420cca

longjohn412: Get a marinade injector for grilling/BBQ (Looks like a big syringe) And use that to put it in the batteries, especially a must with the small SLA batteries where this magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts) trick also works ... I think mine cost all of 5 bucks. I put a piece of heatshrink over the metal needle to keep it from shorting the plates in case you hit one. Just suck up some solution (or plain distilled water) and rehydrate the batteries without making a mess

techsavantlove: At the 30 second mark, I believe the internal resistance being measured is 3.1 milliOhms, not 3.1 ohms. Typical internal resistance levels for a 12 volt auto lead acid battery are in the range of a few milliOhms up to around 20 milliOhms, I believe.

ECO Rehab: battery maintenance that segues into solar... (other series) the wiki on lead-acid cells is a good primer.

KmanAuto: Stupidity Runs Deep with you. Electric Car Batteries=Batteries Designed for Deep discharge and the high amperage demands of a electric vehicle. Starting Battery=Batteries that are designed for short bursts of high amperage power, used for cranking over a engine. Marine Battery (Suppose you think these run on water...)=Hybrid battery, deigned to give good Deep Discharge ability, while still providing a decent cold cranking ability to turn over a boat motor.
