vulvabean: Thank you for this. I needed to replace the alternator and your directions on removing the belt were very helpful! 

Marvin Larson: Problem solved!!! A small wire broke away from the back side of the fuse box when I was removing the battery. 

Marvin Larson: The starter doesn't click when I try to start the car. Serpentine belt looks good. I think its in the connection. Just got to find it. You've been very helpful. Thanks

supamanxtm: Hace you fixed the thermostat at all? 

Marvin Larson: I just changed the water pump on an 06 chevy impala 5.3L. After putting everything back together I went to start the car so I could add the proper amount of coolant. Well, I turned the key and all the lights came on like normal but when I turned the key to start the car nothing happened. Checked all connections still no go. Any suggestions? Possibly a security issue? If so suggestions on getting past that.

ly7698: I am a dude and if I was gay I would take you out to a steak dinner. Thank you so much for showing me how to remove the serpentine belt. I've probably rented all the special belt removal tools from NAPA and none of them work. Also since you have the same model, can you show how to change the damper actuators in the cabin cooling system. The fasteners are 5.5 mm, but no matter how I contort my body, I can't get to them. I am almost positive everybody with this model has heard the clicking noise from behind the dash. Thanks.

jaejay716: Hey I have a grand prix gxp with the 5.3. I tried your way of putting the belt back on and I broke the spring. The damn thing just snaped. Seemed really easy when u did it. But I think that was the worst way.

Kissra Lynn Kay: When you say "connect to hose clamps together and place it around the top and bottom spring mounts" can you explain what you mean by "hose clamps?" This belt thing on the SS is like hell compared to any other car using just a socket wrench, a 5 min job. If you can elaborate or email me a pix of this hose-clamp I would make a video and link it here for others. I messaged you my email

Kissra Lynn Kay: you don't need to drain the radiator. When you pull out the water pump some coolant will drip and that's all. Once the new pump installed just add some coolant in the reservoir and you are good to go

Joshua Hargett: is the LT model the same water pump and location?

Kissra Lynn Kay: If your belt broke your car won't start :) It is impossible for me to tell what could be wrong. Only a visual inspection will determine the location of the leak. I guess (its a long shot) but if your car runs, try starting the engine, video film it with your hood open, upload it to youtube and add it as a video response here. If I can't tell maybe other people here will see it.

arthur6266: okay i just spent 2 days attempting to release tension on the belt via the "tool" GM says to use, there is no room to use it, the tensioner is too close to the frame. So do what you did as far as the wheel removal, and plastic shield, now connect to hose clamps together and place it around the top and bottom spring mounts. Tighten the clamp and tadaa, the spring compresses and the belt loosens.

arthur6266: also if you go this far to get the belt loose REPLACE the grooved pulley just above the water pump, if it isn't now it will eventually start making noise when the bearing go bad, look on the net it happens alot. Less than another 20 buck will keep you from the hell you have to go thru to loosen the tensioner.

jesse85369: I couldn't really see from the bottom... but from over the hood it looked like it was leaking from the hood... am I safe to assume it's the pump? and thank you so much

expecting1full: Just had to change the power steering pump., I found that if you use a 3 foot crowbar to loosen the blet. I took the crow bar and went all the way down to the unibody and layed the crowbar up against the tenstion pulley and pulled to the front of the motor this gave me plenty of room to take the belt off and put it on. this was a lot easier than taking the spring off. It took me 1min to put the belt on

Kissra Lynn Kay: Fill your radiator with plain water and start engine and see where it leaks. You will have to trace it! Once U fix the problem drain your radiator and fill coolant. You can safely run your engine like that for at least 10 minutes in “park!”

Kissra Lynn Kay: Our power steering pump making noise and we will put up a vid on how to fix this and if the noise persist after the fix we will replace it. We are shooting this video this weekend and I will upload it ASAP. Just for UR info, changing the power steering pump is a bit different than water pump. There is special way to take the air out of the new pump. Running power steering pump dry (with air bubbles) will damage it in seconds. NEVER run it dry.

Moneyblak24: Do you know where the cross over gasket is on the impala?? The mechanic said it was attached to the water pump I guess.

Mkodelka: put the keys in ignition, and turn the keys to on position. hold the lock and unlock botton down on the keyless entry for a couple seconds and the horn should beep....then go to the driver side front tire and let air out of tghe tire for 5-6 seconds...horn should beep...then go to the passenger front and let air go out again, it should beep, and do the same procedure for the rear passenger and then finally the rear driver side and then it should beep twice on the last tire.

06impySS: I noticed some seepage of coolant about a week before my belt broke. i pulled the water pump and saw that the housing had been ground down a little bit because the water pump was letting go, after i pulled it out, it would barely turn. the bearings like to go on the ls4 water pumps for some reason. many people have had to replace them and sometimes the serpentine belt actually breaks due to the bearings ceasing up inside the pump. if you see dripping around that area you need to pull it apart

Jeremandre: Can you do a video of how to remove th springs on an impala ss? I have an 08 Impala SS and we recently needed to remove the coil/springs. However there is an odd bolt that didnt seem to fit any tool we had. HELP PLEASE!!
