1aauto: If it tends to dart to the side when the brakes are applied, you may want to check the brake calipers to see if they need to be replaced. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
BioGenocideSCD: Ok. Can you tell me what would make my truck hard to control over rough road? It seems to want to go left or right easily especially when braking on rough road. Is this something that bad CV joints would cause?
1aauto: You may hear a thumping noise while you're driving, or maybe even a popping noise when you turn. If you can move the axle up and down quite a bit, it may need to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
BioGenocideSCD: What are signs of bad CV joints?
Steve Weber: Thanks
1aauto: They should be similar. You should be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Steve Weber: Are both sides similar to change and would a 1500 Silverado be like this. Thanks
1aauto: If only one has gone bad you can change just one.
1aauto: You may be able to apply some of the basic procedures show in this video to your application. We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular year. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.
mjones6115mj: Would this replacement work on a 94 k1500?
shack willmake: quick questions do you have to change both cv joint axles are just one
Joseph Upali: I wann a say thank you 1A Auto - for this video
1aauto: You should torque that nut at the correct torque setting. It's a matter of safety, and your hub bearings may wear prematurely if the nut isn't torqued right. HarborFreightcom carry's decent tools that do not cost a great deal of money. You might want to see what they have. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
austin giboney: is it bad if i dont torque the hub nut cuz i dont have a torque wrench
Keith Krauss: Can I expect a similar process on my 05 trailblazer? Thank you
1aauto: It it's a 00-07 then it should be the same or very similar.
Fck Irak: will this work the same on a z71 silverado 1500 ? i thought i had take the upper ball joint lose from the spindle or whatever
Chris Bryant: very good video awsome
1aauto: You should need to to gain the clearence.
jhertz67: its it absolutely necessary to take off sway bar bolt? is there a purpose or make it easier? mine looks stripped and i don't want to deal with it.
1aauto: There could be several things going on which could include the springs, wheel bearings, or something to do with the sway bar links.
iamdjnov: This is a great Youtube channel and a great video, I have a 2001 gmc sierra 5.3 sle 4wd and my truck has been making noises when I turn the wheel to the right. Its making that "old spring mattress"noise when i crank the wheel and my truck makes a sqeek noise when i drive at 20- 40 mph, almost like the brakes need to be changed, but i already replaced them. What should I do? thanks
1aauto: Thanks for checking us out! Have a great day!
stupidstt: This is seriously the best youtube channel out there!! Thanks!
Henry Smith Jr.: Good Video.... Helped Alot... Thanks
1aauto: It really depends on what the hourly rate of the shop is.
TheCollegeguyman: How much should something like this cost to repair at an auto shop...
1aauto: You may want to check all of the suspension parts. The ball joint could make a popping sound if they are going bad.
David Zamora: I have a "popping" when i steer my 2002 Silverado could these be the culprit or is it the ball joints?
1aauto: You may be able to apply some of the basic procedures shown to your 98 Blazer.
Wendy Marty: Do you have a video showing the driver side shaft? Can I replace it in the same manner as this on a 98 Blazer? I am told the driver side shaft has a retaining ring that I can just pop out and pop in a new one. Am I way off here? Love your videos. Thanks!
1aauto: Normally you can tell a CV joint is bad when it has a lot of inside play. The issue could also be the Differential bearings inside the axle itself. Removing the front cover will give you a good idea of what is going on internally.
Bill Martin: How can you tell the difference between a bad front differential and/or it's bearings and a bad CV joint? I've had a low growl that gets worse with speed. I've replaced both front HUB assemblies and taken out both CV's, but they don't feel bad. If you're holding one in your hands, how can you tell one is bad?
1aauto: It could be the u-joint in the axle or a wheel bearing.
El Shaddai Painting Inc.: hi I have a 2001 gmc sierra and the left front axle is making noises, what is it?
just the bearing or the differential problem
1aauto: Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel on YouTube. Have a great day 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Debra Cole: Great Video---very informative and precise. Answered the question; "Do I need to remove linkage also"....Thanks I replaced my Hub-bearing earlier I should of checked to see if you posted video on that as well!!!!!
spelunkerd: That's a great idea to use chalk to know which bolts you've torqued -- a simple solution to a common annoying problem. Another excellent video by 1A Auto, Mike.
1aauto: Yes, the bolts should be torqued to their proper torque settings. You can do this in your driveway at home. A breaker bar will help to break the rusty bolts free. harborfreight com has a really nice 25" one that I've purchased for $10.99, that will make the job easier to do. Hope this helps you out. We carry the CV axles for your Chevy Silverado on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
rugbykiwi9: Do the bolts have to be specifically torqued? can i do it at home without a torque wrench?
Adolfo P: Just wanted to say, Thanks! Your vid gave me the confidence to do the job myself. I saved money and time, Thanks again!
1aauto: Usually they will make a clicking or a thumping noise. If your able to move the axle by hand then they are more than likely bad.
crippycrippy: what are the signs when there about to give out? i hear a clicking sound on my truck and im not sure what it is..
A1Zealot: Absolutely the most helpful resource with this project...Thank you so much for offering this for free. I will definitely purchase from 1aauto to support more videos like this one!
1aauto: No problem at all. Thanks for stopping by and checking us out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com
kyle smith: thanks man!!! we replaced the front right axle this weekend!!! thanks so much for this how too!!!!! couldnt of done it with out you!! thanks!!!
1aauto: Your newer truck should be similar. Usually it's easier and not to much more money to just replace the whole axle.
kyle smith: how long does it take to do this? would this be any different on a newer style chevy silverado 2500hd? my cv axel pulled apart is there a way that can be fixed or do i need to go ahead and get a whole new cv joint?
1aauto: You would need a 15MM,22MM and 35MM socket. Right at the beginning of the video there's a list of tools that you would need. Hope this helps you out.
macgregwire23: what are the socket sized used for this if anyone knows that would be great
