2012nugget: Running your tranny low on fluid is a bad thing. It may have caused damage
beyond solenoid s.
dirtbikevlog: I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 I think I might have the same problem. It
doesn't want to shift into 3rd sometimes and it will rev high then
sometimes shift if I mess with it, does this sound like the same problem
your buddy was having?
ERICtheLATE: Is the torque on the band bolts that big of a deal? Can i just be
non-he-man about it? If the reverse spring breaks does it cone off like
engine valve spring(without air pressurizing cylinder) ???
Allen Young: Hi, it's been 2 years now how is the transmission shifting now on 1998
Daron Welch: I have a 1995 dodge ram 1500. Transmission was running fine and out of
nowhere, it doesn't jump in gear like it used to. It also doesn't shift
into 3rd gear like it unless I let off the gas, then runs fine after that.
Do you think I'm having the same problem? Are solenoids in the same place
as the 98? It also make like a grinding noise when I put it in gear!
Mike Smoot: I have a question, I have 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. the problem i'm having
with is, the transmission had a leak which i thought was coming from a
front seal. the other issue was that it went in all gears but drive.
meaning that it would move backwards, go into neutral, even in park. NO
PROBLEMS. However when i put in drive it would stall then when i rev it up
it would move. So i saw that there was very little fluid inside so i added
some. check it again same thing. So i took some steps to see what was wrong
1. i drop the trans pan clean it out put the magnet back.
2. then i replace the trans filter
3. replace the gasket around the pan with a new one also check the level
around pan, taped the pan till it was leveled all the way around.
4. put the pan back up and replace the fluids with the same amount that i
took out then top it off.
5. No leaks
do you think it could be a trans solenoid ?
or do you think the trans shift is out of wake trying to save some money
without going to the transmission shop. even though i may have to take it
Lud Wig: I have a 2006 Ram 1500, that is not shifting most of the time. I cannot
tell what gear it is in when starting out but it is not 1st and maybe not
second. I dont feel it shift up lately and rpm is too high 3 -3.5, but runs
good really. I get the P 0700 error which points too general TCM issue,
but on this model the TCM is intergrated in the main computer, so I am
debating to get it scanned for specific problem, IF a scan tool can even
get more specific. What do u think?
Fluid is ok. I will try some lucus just to clean filter, maybe it is
gunked up, but other than changing the solenoids, do you think the TCM
portion could be a culprit, as I seen it on earlier older trucks? Do
you know if the '06 has the same solenoid set up as your video? Did your
job also include a tranny kit (filters, ?)? Thanks!
Josh Turner: This was a good video to show these solenoids. I realize it's old, but
there is a mod you can do to allow for better flow to the first solenoid
you removed. You open up the channel around the screens with a 3/4" drill
bit. As it's designed, the fluid can only get to a small section and if
one of those screens gets partially clogged, it will diminish fluid flow.
I read about it on the dodgetalk forums.
Bob Kontak: Thanks for the video. I used it to fix my 98.
However, the band "lash" you show of about 1/2 inch looks about right. The
other end of the lever is where the approximate 1/8" band adjustment is -
where the screw and lock nut are.
MudBogginRatRoddin: Thats a good idea, I didnt think of that. ive got a 97 ram sport that wont
shift. I adjusted the bands and it didnt help im gonna try that. Thanks so
Colby Wetzel: I have a 1999 dodge ram 5.9 360 146,000 miles and my tranny is like new and
believe me I like to play in the mud a little bit not a lot but every once
in while and mine is like new it don't slip or anything
Johnny Herrera: This explains it so well and solves paying an arm an a leg to do that
simple job on a Dodge Truck transmission.
cementaryjr: I have a 1996 dodge ram pick up 4×4 5.2 that won't shift do you think
that's the problem?
MudBogginRatRoddin: My truck when you get off the gas or stop then it just revs and doesnt want
to go again, whats your thoughts????
Levi Lewis: about how long did the whole process take you if you dont mind me asking
marsha layton: Hi 2012nugget, I have a 1998 5.2 4x4 durango. every once in in a while from
a stop it will rev up high in 1st and won't shift to 2nd. i would pull over
shift it park then put it back in drive and it will be fine. will changing
out the gov, solenoid and tightening the band help or do i have a bigger
jared squires: your video just saved a guy from getting punched in the
Zachary Czerniakowski: where did you get your hands on those parts i dont know what the technical
name for those parts are and i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 sport would
the parts be the same
Kade Pelekane: My 1999 dodge ram automatic transmission won't shift every time I'm in
drive and I start to drive after I come to a complete stop it gets stuck in
a low gear after letting off the gas and pressing the gas again it finally
shifts do you think this video will fix my transmission?
Chris Atkinson: My truck all of a sudden wouldn't pull it revved in the middle of traffic
and that's it pulled over started again shifted great for about 10 seconds
then Just revved again. Serviced the tranny in April no debris. Dropped the
pan this time no debris. Got codes p0740 tcc solenoid and p1757 governor
shift solenoid. Also found broken 3/4 accumulator speing which explained my
frequent shift to od issue. I'm buying the new tcc/ od solenoid, governor
and shift solenoid and new valve body just in case. Do you feel I'm on the
right track? 204k miles been driving perfect until a couple days ago. 1996
1500 5.2 46re transmission.
Verne Leeper: On my 99 it has hesitation from 2nd to 3rd gear... I thought this might be
a speed sensor on the trans.. But I replaced those less than a yr ago.. One
on rear dif and one on trans.. Should I just go ahead and replace these
Chris Wisdom: Hey man, I have a 1998 Ram 1500 and Im having the same problem, just had to
replace the 'brain' (main computer) which somehow got fried, the truck
would crank and crank just no spark, and replacing the brain fixed this.
but now it wont upshift, the transmission was working fine before the brain
went out, so im thinking maybe the gov pressure switch and solenoid were
"fried" with the brain. What are your thoughts on it? Oh the truck also
wont go into 4 wheel drive and o/d wont turn on and off, all of which
worked before the brain was replaced. The truck sat for a bit before i had
the brain replaced and the tranny fluid was really low after sitting for
almost a year, but if it wasnt ran with low fluid than it shouldnt have
caused an issue right? I put fluid in it before driving it, which is when i
found that it wouldnt upshift. Any feedback you can give would be mucho
Maxwell Higgs: this was very help thank you!!!!
Rick Lasee: Sweet video bro. You get 5 stars from me. Only took me 2 hours after
watching your post. Parts were $300 with a new filter but that's a lot
cheaper than any shop would have charged me. Most of them couldn't even
tell me if that was the problem. Thanks and have a Merry Christmas!
cpotter1565: Thanks for Posting this video.
Would this repair be the same for a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins
sayiwont1990: My 99 Dodge doesn't want to shift to 3rd from second and today it basically
came out if gear while trying to get to third. Will this fix the problem?
Noelio Herrera: I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2 V8 4X2 and it doesn't go back into first
gear when I come to a complete stop, (This only happens after warming up
and driving for a little) I changed the governor pressure sensor,
transducer, transmission filter and fluid and the problem still happens. I
have to shift the gear manually into 1st for me to give the truck power to
move because it's like driving a manual transmission but starting in 2nd,
RPM's go up and truck moves but very slowly. If I leave it in D and floor
it, it jumps into first and tires spin a little before I get traction.
Could it be the entire transmission going?
SuperHonda185: Has anyone have problems with not going into gear at all except reverse I
was driving and only got 3rd then 1st then no gears
MyLor8: I have a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L 2x4. My Transmission makes a whining noise
in reverse, moving or just sitting. It still shifts fine. Fluid is a good
color and full. Also, my ABS light came back on after a short
drive despite replacing the ABS sensor. And would you know the points for
checking the seat belt retractors- seat belt light wont go out. By the way,
pernell593: windstar van 1999 wont go past 30 mph
Terry Nicholl: I have the same problem. p0734. Did this fix your problem?
m1artz: Sorry for another ps but I forgot to mention that I read somewhere online
that this problem might also be caused by some adjustment cable that goes
down into the transmission which might need to be adjusted? Possible?
Thanks again 2012nugget. Much appreciated.
m1artz: Thanks very much for the reply...hmmm, but two things, Since I have high
milage and have never changed the trans fluid (126,000 miles now) should I
drain the fluid only and then just replace it after the repair with the
same fluid I drained out? (The fluid is pretty clean for it being 14 plus
years old. And is the engine in the truck in your video also a 318/5.2
liter? Finally, will I need to put a gasket of sorts on the pan of the
tranny when I replace it? Thanks again for a reply.
m1artz: ...let me add that I meant...they said my fluid shouldn't be changed since
I have never ever changed it since 13 years when I bought it....and since I
haven't, they say changing it now will cause issues. Just making that
previous comment more clear. Thanks. So, any idea what I can do about this
trans fluid road block? I mean, I need to fix this shifting problem
like...now....but if I can't put new fluid in it...??
Daniel Virtue: Ill let yall kno how this works!! i freaked my truck up mudding being 16 i
dont have alot of resources to fix my truck, but ill try dropping the pan
ill do the band adjustments and replace the gasket and filter, and ill
replace the solenoids while im at it!! if it works ill be in ur dept cuz i
miss m old 98 ram, another question while im here theres a knocking in the
steering as well any ideas how i can fix that?
m1artz: cont >> It has 126,000 miles and the 318 engine purrs like a kitten. A
friend who is a mechanic for 30 years and a few mechanics online have said
that if I never changed the tranny fluid or had it flushed by now..then I
should NOT change it. Do you think the fix you show here is my problem too?
Further, since I've been told not to change the fluid..don't I have to
drain all the fluid when I drop the pan as you show in the vid? If so would
I SAVE the old fluid and put it back afterward? cont>>
m1artz: Thank you very much for the info/reply.
EricWaterTruck: Mine is a special case. I had wrong computer in truck that didn't let
overdrive work. However my tranny still does slip, so I may try the band
Dakota Rhoden: ive got the same truck but 4X4 and it hesitates to shift into 2nd or 3 and
when i'm at about 10 or 15 mph it kicks and sounds like its knocking. whole
new transmission or could i replace a few senors? help please
2012nugget: Check the cable that runs from the throttle body to the trans. to ensure
its not sticking. It's the detent cable, responsible for downshift, the
tighter the cable the quicker the downshift on acceleration.
Savannah Davis: im having trouble with my 97 dodge it drives fine when i just pat the gas
but if i mash it hard it bogs down what could that be
Kimberly Ott: I have clutch problems with 1998 Dodge 1500 5.2 no pressure going down with
the clutch peddle. It does come back up but won't go into gear. What could
be the problem with this truck. I need help. Thank you
snahx131: I'm about to buy a 98 dodge ram 1500 reg cab 5.2l v8 for 1250.00 has 189.
Thousand miles. Check engine light is on and the seller said the tranny was
rebuilt. Is there anyway to tell and is that a good deal to buy it???
Eric Fomin: Governor Pressure Sensor - Oem Mopar # 56041403AA
imagn20: Wow, my son just replaced his transmission a couple of months ago because
it was doing the exact same thing! We replaced it with a salvage yard
transmission for $600. I wish we would have come across your video
sooner,,,,By the way great video I'm sure you save people plenty of cash
with it. Thanks
m1artz: See but that's the thing...I was told by about 5 mechanics NOT to change
the fluid and flush the tranny since I missed the first and second
scheduled changes and now the tranny has 126,000 miles on it. So, they said
if I change the fluid and flush the system NOW..it will screw up the
tranny..or at least a very high probability that it will...which is why I
asked you. And I had asked you if the engine in the 1500 Dodge 4 x 4 in
this vid. was a 318. I ask because mine is and I wanted >>cont>>
Ricky Davis: I thank the transmission fluid had water inside or something
sheila Foster: did you find anything out for proper band adjutment?
2012nugget: More than likely you have lost fluid or fluid pressure. How is the fluid
level ? Sorry for the slow response, been out of town working.
Dan filiowich: Thank you, I got busy lately but i'm going to look into it within a week or
2. Thanks for the advice,
