1aauto: You may want to see if a rod or cable has become undone from the handle inside of the door. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Jadorepixie71382: My boyfriend 99 Ford Explorer drivers door would not open from the outside. Bought a new latch and replaced, worked once, but not anymore. Could this be the actual problem?
1aauto: If there's a way to spray some WD-40 on the inside of that latch, that might help to free it up for you, so that you can pull the rod from the inside of the door and pop it open. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Erin Smith: I'm not sure what is wrong with my door because in a sense, it "half locks." I have a 97 ford explorer xlt & the door will not open whatsoever. I have the panel off even though it is shut, and I've tried pulling the "bar" that opens/unlatches the door from the locking mechanism and it still continues to stay shut. What would you recommend to do to get it open?
1aauto: It could be a door lock actuator getting weak. Try to lock it using the key and see if it locks. We carry new door lock actuators on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
CastleFoxStudiosLLC: When i press the lock button the lock goes down and you can hear and see it work. But it doesn't actually lock the door and it can be opened from the outside. Is this the actuator or something else?
Steve Cottone: These videos are why I will purchase my parts through you. Please continue to do these videos and save us from the stealerships. Great work guys! We really appreciate you.
1aauto: You may want to check the wire harness between the door and body of the car for a broken or frayed wire. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Oh Yeah: I have a 2000 Lincoln Ls. My driver side rear passenger door lock is intermittently not responding to keyless remote. It will lock and unlock manually. Also, if I bump the handle it may work. All other doors working flawlessly by remote. What could my problem be, thanks.
1aauto: You should match up the one that best fits your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
derek7887: I just bought a replacement actuator. There are multiple copper/gold hooks that came with it. Am I just supposed to use the one like you used with both O rings and all the other ones are useless?
ibemobbinlkeee: thank u! now i know whats wrong with my truck!!!
1aauto: You can either rivet it or use a bolt to secure it back in place. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Nick Agins: 1A Auto has been a monster of a resource and is my go to for fixing my truck. Good quality video and comprehensive. I have a 05 Sport Trac and that Rivet that you punched out, just broke on me. I noticed that you simply screwed or bolted the mechanism back in. Is that correct, if so what size/thread was it? Again, BIG FAN!
EmperorJinx151: I am glad people like yourself do these. it is very helpful. The only advice I would give is do a voice over for all of the audio to equalize the sound. I had it playing on my TV & my wife got mad at me because the sound would jump up so high all of a sudden while she was watching the voice her fav show. Thanks for making this thought.
1aauto: The door lock actuator could be getting tired. We carry new ones on our website with free shipping in the lower 48 states. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
lorraine ramos: I don't have a Ford, but my problem is that my driver side door won't open with the remote or the door panel buttons. It does make some attempt to open when I do push the lock/unlock from the inside as I can see/hear clicking. The door does open with the key from the outside. What could be the problem?
sdmcnly: Thank you very much for this video! I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but I managed to get this done with your help. Thanks again!
Gavin Brown: I had to melt out the rivet with a blow torch. lol
Steven Lane: Mine is doing this same thing too on my 1998.
1aauto: You may need to purchase one separately. You can get one at your local hardware store, or even Home Depot or Lowe's Hope this helps you out. Have a great day 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
jhnnybgoodNH: I couldn't really hear the audio during the part of the video where you were replacing the rivet you had drilled out with a bolt, but did the replacement actuator come with that replacement bolt or did you have to buy that separately?
1aauto: You may have a door lock actuator that has gone bad, typically that's what happens when they fail. We carry new door lock actuators on our website for many vehicles with FREE SHIPPING. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
T3Walker: I own a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport, My driver door will not unlock with remote unlock, nor the unlock button. I have to climb through and pull the inside handle to unlock the door, when i attempt to use the button, or key fob, the plunger just bobbles up and down. Is this what I need to replace?
1aauto: The latch may be stuck, or there could be a latching rod that may have become disconnected inside of the door, that would cause it not to open. You may have to try to remove the door panel with the door closed, so that you can reach inside the door and pop it open by hand. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3383
agonz91: So I hope someone can give some what of an answer... but I have a 98 ford explorer and I'm not sure if my passenger door actuator needs to be replaced or what? anyways.. My door won't open for anything! Not the remote lock, key, unlock button on the door panel, and I can't even pull up the lock from inside. idk how I'm going to even open my door... I'm assuming a slim jim will work, but I want know what is wrong with my door and how am I going to even open it? any advice would be helpful!
Billbent3: Outstanding video . including the still pix and narrative. You made it so easy,.
1aauto: You may want to see if the door jamb button is being fully pushed in when the door's closed to turn the indicator off.
ShadowBlackmare: i have a 2003 ford taurus, my door ajar light keeps going off even with the door properly closed, i used WD-40 but it wont work, it there anything I can do? its very annoying to listen to it all the time
ryan kelly: Installed the new actuator and snapped off the safety light fixture that connects to the hinge, not a big deal, nice being able to work on the car with the front door opened, not worrying about the battery, after installing the actuator, it didnt work, after two days of removing and reinstalling, I unscrewed the lock piece that screws to the rode lock, once that was off it worked, when i put it back on it didnt, i cut the piece in half, the lock pin screwed up higher and did not jam,
Ellis Abram: Thanks. I can hear the locks moving but I'm not sure if that's the actuator or something else. I will take the panels off and do a diagnosis.
1aauto: You may want to see if there's power going to the door lock actuator, also check the fuses to see if there's a blown fuse.
1aauto: That's correct. You may also want to take the door panel off to see if there's a bend rod in there that could be causing the lock to only come up half way.
bgr547: so that could also make it not unlock when i use the key? because thats a mechanical action that shouldn't be causeed by a weak actuator. right?
1aauto: The door lock actuator may be weak and might need to be replaced.
bgr547: i have a problem. the door locks and unlocks using the buttons in the car. but most of the time i try to use the key, or the keypad on the outside of the car, the driverside door half-way unlocks. the door wont open, and the interior buttons won't unlock it then either. i have to go to another door and open the door by the handle from the inside
Ellis Abram: My problem is the door locks won't go up or down with my remote and the driver's side doesn't turn with the key. The locks unlock from the inside, but I have to get into my Explorer Sport by unlocking the passenger side with the key and opening the driver's side from inside.
1aauto: There's not really a specific bolt size to use. basically any bolt that will fit can be used to make the repair. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
David Harris: I am having a problem with my explorer, both actuators are good, but the rivet on the passenger side is rotted out. What size bolt is this?
1aauto: The issue could be with the switch itself. Those vehicles are known for having poor switches on them.
Mike Giammarino: Thank you for your video's, they helped me with a power window issue on my 98 Explorer Sport...Another issue I am having is the power locks won't work. The fuse is good, the driver side or passenger switch will not work. I don't have a fob to try.
1aauto: You may want to test the door switch with a test light to see if there's power to the switch.
1aauto: Thank you for visiting our channel on YouTube. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Mark Edge: I owe you a debt of gratitude. I watched this video and was able to change the actuator myself. I also used another video in this series to change my door latch on '00 Ford Explorer. My alternator went out on it and I was able to do it myself with your help. I can't thank you enough. You saved me hundreds of dollars in labor bills. Many thanks...
Carfixing101: i have a 2000 ford windstar and when i push the control to lock or unlock the door the drivers side door lock does nothing and the passenger side only locks it does not unlock is the problem my door lock actuators.
alosgm1: Yes, in fact I have an alarm system with key fob which is not working for a long time....so I must start there. Thanks a lot!
1aauto: Do you by chance have a alarm system on the vehicle or a key fob to unlock and lock the vehicle? If you do, you might have an issue with the security system in the vehicle. If you don't, you might have an issue with the master switch on the driver side.
1aauto: It sounds like you might have an issue with the latch itself and not the actuator. With the door open, you should try spraying some penetrating oil like PB blaster or equivalent into the latch area and move the handle back and forth on the outside and pull up and down on the lock tab on the door panel
bigbadmamajama11: my problem is that my lock will not come up once it is lock, i even have a hard time opening the door from the inside... is this my problem?
alosgm1: Hello :) When I use the driver door to lock my doors, it appears to work fine (all four doors close) but some seconds after, they all open again xD If I try to close again, only the driver door gets closed. The same occurs with the passenger door. Sometimes it work normally for some weeks and suddenly starts failing again. Could it be the actuator? Thanks!
