Not only will you NOT get future carrier updates, but you will not be able to Root your device because neither ODIN or Kies will recognize your phone. Michael Moody: People..you can update your phone my simply clicking on "settings," then "application manager," click "all", scroll down to "google services framework," click "clear data," then click "force stop." After that, go to "system update," click "update samsung software." Your phone should read 1967 or a year similar. Click "check now" and your phone should download jelly bean. If it doesn't work, repeat the process.Make sure Samsung has released the update for your carrier.Also, you can't be rooted

Michael Moody: You have unroot in order for it to work. Once updated, you can reroot (if that's a word..) and you should be good. I had to unroot my phone in order for it to work. Also, if you have Verizon or US Cellular, this won't work until the official update is released from Samsung.

4rc3l14: I updated my phone with the other method (google service framework) and my sister did it too but she got it by OTA. But I noticed the camera screen are not the same, mine is totally clear ( I just can see the icons) and hers keeps the dark gray bar on the icons. Do you know why?
