How To Replace The Drive Shaft On A String Trimmer

What do you think about this video?

John Fritz: Thanks Mark for the video explaining how to replace the drive shaft on a string trimmer. It answered several questions I had about this repair.

Sonya Centeno: I work for Sears Lawn and Garden Technical phone help and I just wanted to say thank you for facilitating my ongoing learning process that is not afforded me at work. We get a few weeks training and a few weeks on the phone training on then we are expected to trouble shoot and tell people how to repair their L&G equipment like a pro. Thanks to videos like these Sears customers have at least one fairly learned advocate for them when all goes wrong. Keep up the good work!

Akmal Dawson: Hi, when replacing old gear or bearing grease from a petrol string trimmer gear case/gearbox, how much (ml) of grease would you recon to pump in the gear case?

Vonnie Vanderau: appreciated the helpfulness of your video. I have a question . Can I replace a curved shaft on an Echo GT-225 with a straight shaft without causing myself any problems?

Anthony Hernandez: If the original shaft is broken, how do you remove the bottom piece?

franks67: You should make a vid on how to replace the bearings on an Echo weed eater. I have an Echo srm260. And the guys at the shop said they had to replace them. How does one know when your bearings are going out on your trimmer??

Akmal Dawson: Hi, love your easy step by step tutorials, please make a video on greasing the gear case on a string trimmer. thanks

Mohamad Ferdaws: great job would you know why my pull robe wouldn't retract back to it's original position

youtubificationizer: WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW HOW TO PUT THE STRING TRIMMER PART BACK ON TO THE DRIVESHAFT

sissy murphy: what if the shaft broke off at the bottom .Do you take the bottom off to take out the broken piece that is still in there

juan espinoza: nice way to do important things. good job easy top learn

Reaz Mohammed: what grease did you use on the new drive cable?

nick Yates: this is great! I never knew it was this easy!

Tony M: I have a Gt225 as well. When you lubricate the shaft every 3 months or 90 hours, the manual indicates that this operation is performed by removing the cutter head and removing the shaft that way. The shaft comes completely out of the machine. You can replace it that way as well. The manual calls for Power BlendX grease, part number 91014' or any lithium based grease.

seniorsurveyor: I should of added, my trimmer is a Weed Eater FeatherLite. I have had it since 2003. Carb rebuilt twice, gas lines replaced twice. Still works well, used only around my home.

seniorsurveyor: I do appreciate you taking the time to create and post this helpful video, and it did help me somewhat. However, you make no mention of what to do in the event the trimmer head brass pulley drops down from the encasing shaft, allowing the internal drive shaft to disengage from the pulley head. I found no information on this particular problem (which is why I started searching) so, I merely used a cold chisel to crimp the encasing shaft around the bass pulley head, after cleaning the nut piece attached to the bass pulley head, and sliding the brass pulley head into the encasing shaft. It works! Now comes the test of time. Again, thank you. SeniorSurveyor

luiscuevas120372: This video help me a lot thanks

kodibass: you made that look so easy, thanks

trackie250: Mark, how do I get the broken end of the shaft out of the far end of the tube?

eReplacementParts.com: Many trimmer manufactures offer their own grease for this repair so check your owners manual first. If not, a general purpose chassis grease or wheel & bearing grease seems to work fine. Thanks for watching, -Mark

Ajcares43: How do you take the shaft off from the end the line assembly is on?

504futbolfan: eReplacementParts is the s#%t! Great vid which saved me cash and downtime.

48busman: What kind of grease do you use? Great vid

joe bloggs: The motor on my strimmer is loose from the shaft and the tool vibrates very badly when in use, the screws are both tight. Any ideas.

Typey1: Good video thanks

boogerhead0: Hi Mark, what's the new spring part number for that specific machine in your video?

chattyboy16: thanks

Dennis Peoples: how to remove the head from the GT225

hocuspocusjokerride: thats what you get with a curved shaft weedeater, them things are not worth a crap, straight shaft weedeaters are the only kind to buy

Russell Atwell: Great video, very well done!

pqxxedf: Can't you use a screwdriver or whatever to push it into the shaft and let it fall out on the motor end?

sneezie22: Apparently not the first shaft Mark has greased before insertion !

eReplacementParts.com: You will need to remove the tube end on near the trimmer head if possible. If the end is not removable then you will likely need to replace both the cable and the shaft. Good luck with your repair, -Mark

ILoveUberHaxorNova: Hey eReplacements. I bought a new head for my craftsman weed eater and i think it is too heavy for it because it keep stalling. Could turning up the idle fix this problem?
