wafrederick: The rear tailshaft housing,inspect for cracking and replace if there are any cracks shown.This is the result of a driveline vibration and bad u joints in the rear driveshaft´╗┐

John Smith: yes i forgot to mention that is the number one cause for rear housing to fail

John Smith: @GMCownsall dex 6 is just fine to use, unless you live in Alaska, or where is is really cold.

CE750: btw... do you recommend TranSynd in these for GM trucks? or Dex VI?

John Smith: @mrbluetick2 yes i have seen that happen a time or to , you would think they would make a drive line safety loop for this problem.

CE750: Allison makes the trany fot the M1 Tank, what does that tell you?

Richard Fox: you have to have the upgaded seal in the rotating housing to use transynd in the 1000/2000 allison

John Smith: @CE750 both will work just find, but i like the synthetic brand myself. if you keep it serviced every 15 to 20 thousand miles it does not matter what brand you use.

mrbluetick2: @weldean46 the dealer said it is the vibration that causes the crack. they must do alot of them cause there isnt a used tranny in boneyard anywhere around here. im looked at all my options with truck being three states away and core charges versus warrenty and no local transmission men around here wanted to tackle the job so i loose cause gm manufactured is pricey....

John Smith: @crazystratcat you can get a nice repair manual online from ATSG, check it out, it covers all aspect of this transmission quite well.

Vet: When I graduated High School, all I wanted to do was kick back and relax without having to do any homework. But I realized I have no money to do anything fun.
